Background

A dedicated musician, Dr. Harold Orozco has enjoyed a career equally stimulating as a pianist and music educator. An accomplished performer, he has appeared in multiple musical series and events, spanning solo recitals, chamber and orchestral concerts, as well as interdisciplinary musical/visual/choreographic performances. Dr. Orozco has performed at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, the historic Drayton Hall and the Monday Night Series in Charleston, South Carolina; the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington D.C., The Trinity Artist Series (New Orleans, LA); Concordia University (Austin, TX); Saint Thomas More Church (Austin, TX); as well as a number of the main halls in Costa Rica, his native country. 

Dr. Orozco has won prizes in several piano competitions, including The Maria Clara Cullel-Teixido Piano Competition (San Jose, Costa Rica); the Frederic Chopin Piano Competition (San Jose, Costa Rica); The Music Excellence Competition (University of Costa Rica); the Southeastern Piano Competition (North Carolina), the Philharmonic Society Competition (New Orleans, LA); and El Paso Symphony Competition (El Paso, TX).

Dr. Orozco received his Doctorate of Musical Arts from The University of Texas at Austin; his Master’s in Music from The University of New Orleans; and his Bachelor’s in Music from the University of Costa Rica. Dr. Orozco has studied with renowned pianists Anton Nel, Danielle Martin, Brian Ganz, Enrique Graf, Mary Ann Bulla and Sara Feterman. Masterclass performing participation also includes: Ann Schein, Antonio Pompa-Baldi and Malcom Bilson.

Dr. Orozco is dedicated to working with a talented group of students at his studio in NW Austin. He has been a part of the Austin Music Teachers Association for more than a decade, and he has served as an adjudicator for its piano events and competitions.  

He has also participated both as a guest clinician and performer for piano regional festivals at the University of Costa Rica.

In his spare time, Dr. Orozco enjoys camping and hiking in Central Texas with his family.
